With reference to paragraph 2 of Wagstaff's letter dated 16th August, 1951, of even reference, authority has now been received from the Treasury to write off the three items referred to in Hong Kong's Savingram, No. 858 dated 25th July, 1951. It will be noted that the authority has been given, subject to confirmation that in the case of the advance to Messrs. Bailey and Co., Ltd., there were no assets from which partial or complete recovery could have been made.

In the circumstances would you kindly telegraph Hong Kong asking for the necessary confirmation as early as possible.

Yours sincerely,
